Cabinets and counters

Cabinets and counters you can put a hand on

Stock, semi-custom and custom cabinets, with quartz, granite and butcher block counters.

Cabinet doors and counter slabs look different on a screen than in your hand. The showroom has full runs of cabinets set up, and slabs and samples by the window. Our carpenters install the cabinets, and counters are templated after the cabinets are set, so the measurements are taken from what is on your wall rather than from a drawing.

Cost

What changes the price of cabinets and counters

No figures here: your size, your house and your selections set them. This is what moves the number.

  • The cabinet line

Stock lines have set sizes. Semi-custom lines adjust sizes and finishes. Custom lines are built to your wall.

  • Door style and finish

A flat panel, a shaker door and an inset door are built differently. Painted and stained finishes differ too.

  • Counter material

Material is priced by the square foot, and slabs differ widely within one material.

  • Seams and cutouts

Every seam, sink, cooktop and edge profile adds fabrication time.

  • Hardware and storage

Pulls, pull-out trays and corner units add up quickly across a whole kitchen.

  • Lead time

Custom cabinets and special slabs take longer to arrive. The schedule is part of the estimate.

The process

How cabinets and counters go

  1. 01

    Step 1: Showroom visit

Your plan, the cabinet runs on the floor, and slabs and doors by the window.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Site measure

We measure walls, windows and the floor's high and low spots, and mark where the plumbing and outlets sit.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Selections and ordering

Cabinets are ordered once the plan is signed. You choose the slab at the showroom.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Installation

Our carpenters hang the cabinets level on an out-of-level floor and an out-of-plumb wall.

  5. 05

    Step 5: Template and counters

The fabricator templates from the finished cabinets, and the counters follow after fabrication.

Permits and rules

Replacing cabinets and counters in place usually needs no permit. Moving a sink, a gas line or circuits does, and we handle those through licensed trades and your city's building department.

Counter slabs are heavy. We check that the floor and the cabinets can carry them before they arrive.

Questions about cabinets and counters

Can I keep my cabinet boxes and replace the doors?

Sometimes. If the boxes are sound and the layout works, new doors and drawer fronts can save money. We look at them at the site measure.

Can I see the exact slab?

Yes. Slabs vary within one material, so you choose the slab at the showroom and it is set aside for your job.

Who installs the counters?

A fabricator we work with makes and sets them, after our carpenters have finished the cabinets.

What if my floor isn't level?

It rarely is. We shim and scribe the cabinets so the counters sit level, and we note it in the estimate.

Bring your wall to the table

Bring your plan to the showroom. The visit has no charge, and you leave with a written list of what the room needs.
